After School Sailing Club 2024

Join the new After School Sailing Club at Marsh Creek Watersports!

Our After School Program offers campers the opportunity to continue developing their newfound passion for small boat sailing under the guidance of our US Sailing certified instructors.

Campers will strengthen their sailing skills on various small boats including dinghies and daysailers (O’Pen Skiff, Sunfish, American 14.6) and catamarans (Hobie Wave, Hobie Getaway), with opportunities for solo and cooperative sailing. Daily classroom lessons (5 minutes or less) will introduce topics and techniques to further your sailor’s understanding of wind and weather conditions, points of sail, sailing terminology and rigging, before hitting the water with our usual emphasis on safety and fun. We look forward to more heeling, hiking out, and flying hulls this season! New for 2024, we have added two Flying Scots for small group sailing, and a Laser and International 420 for introduction to racing rules and technique.

Camper Information

Make sure to pack for the weather! May days can vary from warm to cool sometimes in the same afternoon. Sailors should pack a full change of clothes including but not limited to one or more towels, bathing suit and/or shorts, tee shirt or rash guard, sweatshirt, sweatpants, windbreaker, sneakers or other appropriate footwear that can get wet. Sunscreen is still critical even in the early spring weather and particularly on cloudy days. Life Jackets will be provided or campers can bring their own!

Campers can get hungry while on the water! Make sure to pack a snack and drink to enjoy while taking a break from hiking out.* The snack bar will be open under a limited capacity and offer bottled beverages and packaged snacks.

*Hiking is the action of moving the sailor’s body weight as far to windward (upwind) as possible, in order to decrease the extent the boat heels (leans away from the wind).

We watch the radar very carefully both before and during camp. If inclement weather develops during camp, we will get off the water and inside our teaching classroom for chalk talks and land drills. During light rain, we will continue sailing. In the unlikely event that we would cancel camp, we will send an email and text alert before 2:30 p.m. to notify you of the cancellation.

In the event that we must cancel a day of camp due to weather or other adverse conditions, we will schedule a make-up day. If a make-up day of camp cannot be scheduled a refund will be issued for that day of camp. The maximum refund amount for 1 day of camp is $100. No-show campers will not be eligible for a refund.
